It is often easy to talk about what needs to be done, but the community members worked hard the past 6 months to see this project to fruition. Their unwavering commitment through all phases of the infrastructure’s construction speaks to their strength as a community and the perseverance of each individual…
HUGE thanks to our donors and supporters who have contributed towards the completion of a major project in Bal Uddhar Secondary School in Gagalphedi. This hill-side school is serving around 400 students and staff from minority groups and less-fortunate backgrounds, and the government has only funded enough to cover minimal overhead costs and teachers’ salaries. However, fully- functioning infrastructure for efficient access to drinking water wasn’t a cost afforded by the government.
Not only was one storage tank damaged, but the pipes transporting their main source of drinking water for the students and staff were ruptured by the earthquake. These leaks led to precious water wasted every month and often resulted in a shortage of drinking water throughout the year. Scroll down to read more...
Together, we not only funded a 1,000-liter storage tank to replace their broken one but initiated a 6-month long project to replace the damaged pipes with upgraded, more durable PVC pipes that lasts 40-50 years. While their previous pipes were exposed on the surface of the ground, we instead agreed with the school to place the new pipes under resurfaced concrete to increase their resiliency against passing motor vehicles, rough weather conditions, and unforeseen circumstances in the future.
Of course, this plan required more time, planning, and arduous labor (all done manually). But the community members and their families committed themselves towards digging around 2km length of ground to carve out space for the new pipes. These pipes were then covered with concrete and connected to the new storage tank on the school's rooftop.
Thank you again to all our donors and supporters. This project would not have been possible without your help :)
